Issue #2 (Between Rounds 31 and 32)

Hello again, Fright Fans, and welcome back to Horror Fight!: Between Rounds. Your mid-fight breather where the Spooky Bois regroup, swap cinematic blows, and gear you up for the next main event. I’m MeZ, your loyal corner man in the Horror Fight arena, taping your gloves, icing your cuts and loading up your watchlist with deadly precision.

Quick note: Going forward we’ll be using neon borders to help differentiate which spooky boi is talking. Pink = MeZ. Green = Corey. Blue = Pat.

Last week’s episode had the Spooky Bois going toe-to-toe with one ugly motherfucker as we ranked the entire PREDATOR franchise. We battled through every corner of the franchise, from its perfect ’80s origins to the sequels, spin-offs, and surprise reinventions. After the Franchise Fight, we talked a shit ton of new releases including: Paul Thomas Anderson’s ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER and Guillermo del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN. Two movies that I’m sure we’ll be talking about again on our Best of 2025 episode (dropping right before CHRISTmas).

Ever watch something that sends you into a total spiral? One movie leads to another, then another, and suddenly you’ve fallen down a cinematic rabbit hole with no way out. Welcome to THE SPIRAL; a once in a while feature where one watch becomes an obsession and every path leads somewhere weird, wild, or wonderfully unhinged.

For the first-ever edition of THE SPIRAL, we’re heading straight into the wonderful, weird world of Oz. After watching WICKED: FOR GOOD (Corey and I will be talking about it on next week’s pod), I got the itch to revisit Oz through a bunch of different adaptations. One movie led to another… and suddenly I’d watched five Oz-inspired films in a row.

Here’s how that journey went:

There’s another silent OZ film from the 1920’s on Youtube and a newly released big budget foreign adaptation that was I planning on checking out… but honestly? After 5 movies, I was fully spiraled-out.

For our next episode, we’ll be fighting it out over the best horror movies from the last 25 years. With so many incredible films to choose from, we narrowed things down to about 30 to make the battle a little more manageable. And to help youprepare, the Spooky Bois are each giving you one movie you should definitely watch before the next episode drops. Pat has selected IT FOLLOWS (2014), while Corey is recommending TITANE (2018).

As for me? I’m totally not sure which movie to pick. I love a lot of these movies. Like… really, really love them. Some of them I’d put up against any of your beloved classics from the ’70s & ’80s — including the two movies my co-hosts chose.

So I’m going to make this quick. SHAUN OF THE DEAD (2004), THE HILLS HAVE EYES (2006), MARTYRS (2008), and THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (2012). Those are the four movies I keep coming back to. A mix of extreme and silly horror that perfectly sums up my horror-watching taste.

Other movies we’ll probably be talking about on the pod next week: WICKED:FOR GOOD (2025), SHELBY OAKS (2025), DREAM EATER (2025), THE PEE PEE POO POO MAN (2025), CRIMEWAVE (1985), THE LAST WALTZ (1978), BUGONIA (2025), SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE (2025) and KILL BILL THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR!!

Real fast before we get out of here. I promised last issue to reveal some of our 2026 schedule. Here it is folks, 5 out of first 6 episodes we have planned.

We’ll be starting off the year with Monkeys!, playing off the new killer chimp movie PRIMATE. Next up, we’ll be diving into the filmography of the Master of Horror himself, John Carpenter.

In February, we’ve got back-to-back Franchise Fights. First, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, we’ll be tackling the TWILIGHT franchise, and then we’re heading down to Woodsboro to gear up for SCREAM 7.

There’s a new Frankenstein movie dropping in March — THE BRIDE!, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal — so we’re considering an episode to piggyback off that. Maybe a Frankenstein deep dive, maybe a Female-Directed Horror episode; still figuring it out.

We’ll wrap up the first quarter of 2026 by fighting it out over our favorite sequels. Still debating whether to cover anysequels or keep it strictly to part 2s only.
